A lot of entrepreneurs and high performing individuals think they need to be grinding 24/7 to succeed. The hustle culture is alive and well within us all, myself included. That being said, sometimes the best thing you can do to help yourself be efficient and successful is to rest. Knowing when you need to rest will help you perform at your full potential. Here are 5 signs that you’re burnt out and need to take a break.

#1. Your Health Is Suffering

If you start to notice minor aches, pains and other physical issues, you might be overworking yourself. If you notice you’ve been having headaches or stomach aches recently, it might be because you’re over stressed about your workload. If your sleep patterns have been off recently, it might be because your workload is making you more tired than usual. Listen to your body. It wants you to succeed just as much as you do.

#2. You’re Making Unnecessary Mistakes

Making mistakes is a normal part of life. Learning from your mistakes is an important part of growing and developing as an entrepreneur and human being. That being said, if you notice that you keep making unnecessary mistakes, you might be overworking yourself. If you keep making spelling or counting mistakes on an important document, the lesson to learn is that your mind is too tired or preoccupied to focus on the task at hand. Taking a break should help you come back to work feeling refreshed and focused again.

#3. Your Motivation And Creativity Are Diminishing

If you’re having trouble staying motivated, you’re most likely burnt out. You might be having a hard time staying consistent with your positive habits and rituals, whether they’re about your health or business. Things that seemed easy and exciting to do before might seem difficult or overwhelming to do now. This is all a clear sign that you need to take a break and take some of the pressure off of you.

If you find yourself having difficulty with creating things you normally don’t struggle with, that’s also another strong indication that you need to take a break and come back with a fresh perspective and clear mind.

#4. Your Social Life Is Suffering

It’s important to work hard in life but it’s also important to unwind and have fun as well. It’s especially important to interact and connect with people that have similar goals, interests and values as you. Having positive social interactions will go a long way towards recharging your body and relieving your stress. Make sure you regularly do something fun or relaxing with the people you care about. It will be much easier for you to focus on your work, if you also have something fun and exciting to look forward to.

#5. You Aren’t Accomplishing Your Goals

Finally, if you’re not accomplishing your goals and making progress in the areas you want to improve in, you’re probably not going about things in the most efficient or effective way possible. In these moments, it’s important to take a break so that you can assess your strategies and execution. You need to stop what you’re doing and take a step back so that you can have a more objective opinion about the situation you’re dealing with. Looking at things from that new perspective will help you set a new strategy so you can have better results in the future.

Hard work is one of the most important ingredients to becoming successful in business and life but resting is an important ingredient as well. Find time to take a break from your work whenever you notice one of the five things I pointed out in this blog post. It will help you make progress towards your goals, much more than you realize.
